2024 Johns Hopkins University Department of Pathology Latta Research Fund

We are pleased to announce a new funding mechanism in the Department of Pathology to support faculty research, generously sponsored by the Latta Endowment. This year, we will fund two awards of $50,000 each to support cutting-edge disease-centered research in pathobiology, which may be clinical or basic/translational. Funding is open to all full-time faculty with a primary appointment in JHU Pathology and less than $100,000 in current research funding (direct costs).  To ensure that applications are reviewed by those with appropriate expertise, we will separately review clinical research proposals (patient- or biospecimen-centered projects which do not include model systems) and basic/translational research proposals (which may include model systems with or without biospecimens). Applicants will designate the category in which they wish to be reviewed at the time of application. Applicants will also be required to designate a pathology trainee (student, resident, fellow) who will be involved in this work. Awardees will be required to present an update on their work at Pathology Grand Rounds approximately one year after the project period start date.

Application deadline: November 30, 2024

Funding notifications: By January 15, 2025

Project period: February 1, 2025-January 31, 2026

Budget guidelines: Funds may be requested up to a total of $50,000 in direct costs (no indirect costs allowed) and used to support the salaries of faculty, staff, trainees, equipment and/or research supplies in Pathology. Awards are granted for a 1 year project period, with option to request a 1 year no cost extension.
