Guidelines

Recipients in previous years have successfully focused their proposals on clinical projects that have supported enhancing the quality of life of cancer patients and their families. Specific to quality of life, past awarded research sought to evaluate new strategies in areas including: managing the symptoms and side-effects of cancer treatment, using modalities such as meditation to increase the patient’s ability to relax, or evaluating the quality of life for long-term bone marrow transplant survivors.

The award consists of a $30,000 stipend.


Submission Eligibility

MD/PhD/equivalent level employees are not eligible to submit a proposal as primary investigators. Staff including APPs, nurses, social workers, case managers, coordinators, and other employees are eligible to submit as the primary investigator.

Submission Format

The description of the research project must be submitted double-spaced, and must include:
- Three-page summary
- Itemized budget with explanation
- Appended tables and figures as appropriate to describe data

The proposal must include the following information:
1. Statement of purpose
2. Concept and theoretical framework or rationale for the research project (significance, review of literature)
3. Methods and design (copy of measurement instruments to be provided as an appendix)
4. Interpretations and conclusions or plan for completion (timetable)
5. Implications and future directions
6. Budget included on a separate page (detail specific items requested and provide brief justification)
